Mission Statement
The Rural Native Housing (RNH) Program is joint federal-provincial program responsible for providing low cost housing, both rental and privately owned in designated areas in the province of Manitoba. In 1991 a board of directors was formed with a vision for housing within our community of Camperville. This agreement with the federal government gave responsibility to SHI and the care, maintenance and rent collection to 105 units.
A first of its kind in Canada, this housing corporation created an example to all other housing corporations to follow their footsteps. While providing affordable housing for a rural area, Sagemace Housing Inc. has modernized the response time for repairs to the homes and is able to monitor the portfolio effectively.
As an economic boost to the community, SHI has insisted that all work to repairs of the housing units benefit the local people. Work related to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, water and sewer has all been offered to our local people. This not only creates employment within but also aides in the quick response to a demand for repair.
Sagemace Housing Inc. has a staff of three which include: Administrative Secretary, Maintenance Secretary, and a Housing Manager full time. Working together with a Board of Directors, Sagemace Housing Staff is providing a service to Rural Native tenants in a remote part of the province that is second to none.
Our future endeavors include an expansion of our portfolio with larger homes to accommodate our ever growing waiting list of potential tenants. We are confident that the day will come when all rural areas will benefit from local control in managing heir housing portfolio.
